A Rant.....

Everyone knows I live in the mountains...

 

Now i have a question/rant.....

Why is there a need to pass on a two-lane curvy road...??!!

 

I'm semi-old...but...I don't drive like a snail..

I drive according to weather conditions..if it's rainy, icey, snowy or foggy I drive a little slower than the speed limit.  If it's clear and beautiful I drive the speed limit or maybe a little faster depending on my mood...

Several times in the past few weeks there have been cars/trucks that have passed me like I'm standing still on roads that are double yellow and hilly with curves....!!

Is where you're going soooo important that you have to endanger your life and mine?  And in all the cases I've pulled up right behind you at the red light,,!!

What's your hurry???

Slow down enjoy life...what ever it is will still be there when you get there....

One of the many reasons I love working for the state parks.

Can't beat the scene outside the windows.

Well.....the kid made it home and has been trying to readjust to Eastern Standard time.

Today he goes to the school board and signs up as a substitute teacher.

Spent Friday afternoon at the ER with CityBoy.....kidney stones are painful little buggers...but it past on Sunday morning and he's back to normal.

And me...?

I'm trying to develop some Holiday Spirit....

at least the cards have been printed....

not mailed, but, printed...

Maybe tomorrow.....hummmmm.....

Update....

The kid comes home tonight and wouldn't you know, tonight is going to be the coldest night of the season ...so far..!

 

The fires are all out and some were arson...!

 

Another Holiday is approaching and I have no spirit...the same as every year....Spirit will kick-in in about a week.

 

CityBoy has gone back to work and each week they are adding more hours and work. 

 

that's about it....things are quite around the Twelve Acre Wood...

hope they stay that way.....

What's Happening.....

Well....

First the MaleChild left for Ireland...

Doesn't he look Irish?

He's due back next week....

Then

This happened...

and the State closed eight parks in the NW North Carolina area and deployed the rangers and maintenance men to the fires...

I was working Monday, Wednesday and Friday from another park...

Then

This happened....2 miles north of our house...!!

It is now 98% contained, the crosses are still standing and rain is predicted for the next 3 days..

And

because of the fires and winds...

This happened...

that's smoke....not fog...

Which sent my asthma into overdrive...

Then this happened...

 

It's been a fun filled few weeks here at the Twelve Acre Wood! 

 But things are looking up, all the park guys will be home tonight and the parks reopen tomorrow...

Pray for Rain...

all of you out there in Bloggerville please pray for rain.

There are thousands of acres on fire, including two state parks...

All the parks in the NW section of North Carolina are closed until further notice, 'cause my Rangers and Maintenance Men all deployed to fight the blazes.

Leaving on a Jet Plane....

Yep..!

Today is the day...!!

The MaleChild is leaving for 5 weeks in Bray, Ireland today..!

This past Spring he was chosen with a group of 8 other ASU students for the International Student Teaching Program...

Besides visiting schools, the group has their weekend travels planned.....England, France, Italy, Spain and maybe Scotland if they can fit it in.....

Trip of a lifetime....!!

Like the chippers and squirrels we've been preparing for winter all summer long
